Commission Paintings
During her career, Melinda has successfully completed many commissioned paintings for both commercial and private parties. The procedure, in each case, starts with a discussion of particular subject matter desired. Assuming this meeting goes well and we agree to go forward with the project, a deposit is placed with the artist, the contract is signed, and site and location is determined. The contract is simple and straightforward; it addresses major points like basic characteristics of the art, payment schedule, completion time, and final delivery. The deposit is applied to the purchase of the finished artwork. Receiving partial payment ahead of time commits both parties to wanting a positive outcome. It covers the cost of time, labor, and materials used to design the painting and create a prototype. Melinda then create a series of pencil roughs and/or photo collages to ensure that the design is adhering to the intended direction. Upon approval a small (11x14 or 12x16) color oil painting is produced as a prototype. This may be created in the studio or on site as a pleinair field study. You will receive a printed image of the small painting for approval. We will note any desired changes in the margin of this printed image. That way, we can address any concerns or changes before the final painting is underway. When all is in agreement, the final oil on canvas is painted to the agreed size and schedule. Melinda will make arrangements for you to get periodic pictures of the work while it is in progress. We encourage dialogue at all times. You should feel comfortable asking questions, and expressing opinions about the art and its progress. The goal is for you to be part of the process and be happy with the outcome.
